Born, Raised, and Rooted in Saskatchewan

I didn’t just start a lawncare company for the love of cutting grass. I started Gladiolus because I saw too many prairie yards struggling against our environment – and I knew the science to fix it

About Us

Growing up on a farm in Southern Saskatchewan, I developed an early fascination with how plants survive and thrive in our extreme climate. That curiosity led me to the University of Saskatchewan, where I earned a degree in Horticultural Science with a minor in Applied Plant Ecology. I have always been passionate about Plant Science and happiest when working outdoors and surrounded by nature.

Outside of client projects, I stay actively involved in Saskatchewan’s horticultural community through the Saskatoon Horticultural Society and the Native Plant Society of Saskatchewan. More recently, I’ve also begun volunteering as a judge with Communities in Bloom Saskatchewan and as a contributor to the Wildwood Playground Project. For me, this is more than just a business — it’s about helping our community’s landscapes thrive.

Before starting Gladiolus, I spent several years working in Parks Maintenance with the City of Saskatoon and more than a decade in the agricultural research industry. During that time, I worked with organizations including Bayer CropScience, BASF, the Global Institute for Food Security, and Limagrain Cereals Research Canada, helping develop and deliver improved varieties of Canola, Wheat, Peas, and Lentils.

That work was incredibly rewarding because it felt meaningful — contributing in a small way to helping feed the world. At the same time, plant breeding and genetic research can also be an extremely wasteful process. Because of the huge variability in genetic traits passed through each generation, thousands of plants are often discarded every day in pursuit of a single successful variety. Over time, that reality pushed me toward work where I could have a more direct and sustainable impact on the landscapes and communities around me.

Today, Gladiolus Lawn Care & Landscaping allows me to combine my background in Plant Science, Ecology, and Horticulture with hands-on work that improves the spaces people live in every day.

Why Horticultural Science Matters for Your Yard

Most companies treat every yard the same. But Saskatchewan soil is complex – we deal with heavy clay, erosion of topsoil, high alkalinity, high winds, -40 in the winter and 40 degrees in the summer. That's tough on your yard!

Because of my background I don’t just guess; I analyze. Whether its choosing the right turf or the right fruit tree for your yard, every decision we make is backed by data and local expertise.

 A Tribute in Every Bloom

People often ask where the name Gladiolus comes from.

It was my mother’s favourite flower. In floriography, the gladiolus represents integrity, strength, and perserverance—qualities she instilled in all her boys, and values that now shape how I approach every property.

To share a piece of that legacy, we include a complimentary Gladiolus Bulb Pack for every new spring client, as a way of sharing the beauty my mother saw in the world with you and with the community we share.

Founders Promise

I believe that your yard is more than just turf, plants and soil – it’s an extension of your home and a piece of our local ecosystem. My promise to you is simple: we will never just go through the motions. We don’t cut corners, and we don’t ignore the details that keep your landscape thriving. Whether we are restoring an overgrown property or designing a native garden, we bring the integrity my mother instilled in me and the precision I learned at the University of Saskatchewan. We treat your yard like the investment it is. That is my word, and our standard.
